Five on Friday- donations

lately i have been seeing that there are a lot of places in need of donations.  these are some of the ones we have supported and why it was important to us to help them.  please help if you can too!

1.  The Women's Center (Waukesha)

our church has Zumba every Tuesday, and they call is Zumba CARES because instead of paying for the class, they pick a charity and ask for participants to donate to instead.  for January and February, they have been collecting donations for The Women's Center.  this is a great cause because it helps support abused women.

2.  Miller for Midwest Boston Terrier Rescue

Miller has a lot of medical expenses.  he needs an x-ray, surgery on his eyes, and dental work done.  it is possible that he might even lose his eye sight if he has to wait too long to have surgery. :(

3.  Kim for St. Baldrick's Foundation

this is a Facebook friend of mine, she was also in one of my college classes with me.  she is planning on shaving her head for her hair to be made into a wig for a cancer patient.  the funds go toward research in field of childhood cancer.  this is such a selfless thing she is doing.  i am so proud of her :)

4. Adams County Humane Society

they had a fire at their facility. they were thinking a dryer started it.  luckily all the animals were saved by some very dedicated people.  but they have to clean up and get the everything back to normal so that they can find forever homes for all of their animals.

 5.  Wisconsin Boston Terrier Rescue

we are always needing help to pay for surgeries.  like our Remi is having her surgery Monday, this is something they pay for in order to keep her alive and get her adopted, we just happen to be the lucky ones fostering and adopting her (aka foster failure).  and we will be helping pay for the surgery.  there are a lot of dogs we get in, and every one is vetted, up to date on shots, and fixed.  sometimes there is even more that they need, like dental, or in Remi's case, knee and tail surgery.  the cost of the surgeries are always much more than their adoption fee, so extra funds are always needed.

five on friday (home tour: laundry room/mudroom)

the laundry room and the mudroom were the most important rooms in the house in designing the house.

unfortunately, not everyone felt the same way, so there were a lot of problems with this area as we were building.  mainly, it was made much smaller than the plans originally said.  not enough space was not ok for this space, but luckily my mom came through and figured out how to fit everything in.

although not all of the problems were resolved, it is still one of my favorite rooms in the house!

welcome
look at that beautiful blue.  still love it every time i see it.

the mudroom/laundry room is right next to the master bedroom

this area was the most important, because it had to have enough room for:

  • dog's kennels
  • place to hang jackets, and for shoes
  • countertop for folding/cat food
  • hampers
  • washer/dryer
  • sink
  • broom closet

1. behind the door to the mudroom is the dogs kennels, nicely tucked away under a countertop

there is a door so that if people come over, all i have to say is 'kennel' and they will run in there and i just have to shut the door to keep them from jumping all over our guests.  this is nice so they don't always have to be in their kennels.  so far, they don't scratch at the door.

the Boston Terrier sign, says 'a house is not a home without a Boston'

i also insisted on having the cabinets above them, because that's where all their goodies are kept. (this will be in a later post)

if we end up getting a fourth dog (which is something we are considering), or when we have a foster (and if both happen, that means space for 5 dogs!), i'm not sure where she/they will go, but i'm sure we will figure it out.

2.  ok, i know this looks pathetic, but until we find a solution, it is working for us.  we have a place for jackets and shoes, it's just not the prettiest space in the house.

eventually, i would like to get a bench with baskets underneath for shoes, some nice hooks, and some storage above.  it's not a priority for right now, but it'll happen eventually.

3.  in the laundry area of this space is my must have sink.  i honestly only wanted this sink to be able to fill up the dog's water bowl.  which isn't the best reason to spend a lot of $, but it ended up that i use this CONSTANTLY.

i LOVE this sink!  best idea ever.

and the cabinets house my cleaning supplies.  all in one area.  not the most ideal, but for fostering it had to all be kept out of reach from the littles.  so this is where it goes, and it's been working for me.

4.  obsessed with my washer and dryer.

we didn't have one in the rental and it was pure torture.  ok, maybe it wasn't that bad because i got to visit Grams every week, but still.  it sucked having to haul all that laundry back and forth.

i truly appreciate and love these.  they are LG just like all of the appliances in our house.  and i love the steam feature.  especially with the dogs.  and a dog that has a tail infection.  just ew.

5.  my little shelf above the washer and dryer.

it houses my laundry detergent, and similar items.  a little garbage can for lint.  and a wash bucket.

originally, i was going to add more cabinets, but i wouldn't have been able to reach any of the shelves anyways.  this worked out perfectly and i love it.

ignore the plugs and plumbing...apparently the plumber, electrician and HVAC guy all don't know how to use a tape measure.  my husband, ahem the electrician, is trying to think of a solution to hide it.

Things that still need to be done in this space:

  • paint trim
  • paint doors
  • install end on laminate
  • lockers or storage for jackets/shoes
  • rug
  • touch up garage door
  • install garage door knob

Lily loves to sit in the laundry basket on top of the washer.  it's one of her favorite places in the house too ;)

Five on Friday

1.  We closed on our house this week!!  So happy to have that all done and behind us.  Now we will get our last check and finish paying all the workers, and maybe even have a little left over.  Yay!

2.  Got to hang out a bit with Starla and Aron.  Me and Starla even had a lunch date at Chili's.  Yummy!

She totally spoils Marley

3.  Went out to lunch with Grams yesterday, which was a blast!  We went to a little diner in her town called the Lumber Inn.  I had the fish sandwich and she had a beef sandwich.  It was really good!

4.  On the way to her house there were cops EVERYWHERE!  And then I noticed on my way to Trader Joe's there was even more cops.  Called my Grams and she turned on the news to hear that Mr. President was in Waukesha, down the street from our old house at GE.  After leaving Trader Joe's I was headed home and realized that no one was driving on the other side on the freeway.  I went to get off the freeway and got stuck in traffic right next to the freeway.  Next thing you know, a million cops, and the President's Suburbans all come rolling down the freeway.  Kinda cool to see!  (And no I didn't get any pics, because I was on the phone with my mom complaining about being stuck in traffic.  Ha!)  But it looked like this...

5.  I'm not a big crafter or DIY'er but I saw arm knitting on a blog somewhere and decided I wanted to try it.  I found a tutorial on YouTube and spent 2 hours last night on it.  It turned out AMAZING!

Here's the video:

Five on Friday- Weekend

This week has been very busy and has flown by!  I can't believe it's Friday already.  I have been anticipating it all week because...

1.  I get to see my all time FAVORITE duo TONIGHT!  I have LOVED Karmina for many years now.  They have such amazing music.  I always told Marky Mark that someday we would have to make a trip to LA to see them perform but we don't have to because we are headed to...

2.  Chicago!  It's not my favorite place in the world, but we still get to stay overnight in a hotel.  That makes it a mini-vaca.  I'm excited to get out of town for a night after all the craziness that has been going on lately.  I always feel refreshed after going away, even if it's for just one night.

3.  Saturday night, we are having our favorite couple over for dinner, Starla and Aron.  We are making Chicken Fajitas.  I'm sure it will be a good time :)

4.  Sunday, Grams is having a birthday lunch for Mikey and Aunt Pat.  Lunch at Grams is always a good time!

5.  Hopefully we will have a little time to get some stuff done around the house and relax!  Things have been so busy that there really hasn't been a lot of time to get things done or just hang out.  We will see...

and in anticipation for tonight...

Have a good weekend!  I know I will ;)

Five on Friday

We had a good week!

1.  We rang in the new year with just the two of us.  Me and Marky Mark decided to go out to an early dinner at People's Park (my fav).  After that, we headed home and played a little Yahtzee and then watched "We're the Millers".  I have to say it was a really funny movie!  And, of course, I love Jennifer Aniston.  We were in bed by 10:30pm and asleep by 11pm.  It was great :)

2.  New Year's Day started with Mark installing the garage door opener!  This is a BIG deal because it was so hard having to manually open the garage door, then back the car out, then manually shut the door, and then run through the house to leave out the front door.  NOT fun!  So I'm very happy to use the garage door like a normal human being!

3.  Grams always has lunch at her house on New Year's Day.  She hosted a fabulous lunch like always!  We just hung out and watched the Rose Bowl Parade.  Nobody stayed for too long because Mom wasn't feeling well and we had some errands to run.

this was one of our favorites

4.  We got asked to do respite care!  We thought it would be a good way to try out fostering, so we decided to accept and we will be having a little friend come stay with us for a week, starting next week.  We are really excited to give this whole thing a try.

5.  We got the nursery set up!  It's not done by any means, but we set up what we have so far.  It's so exciting to see the crib and all the toys.  Can't wait to start using it :)

We are having our friends over tomorrow night to see the house and for a puppy play date :).  We will also be hopefully getting a lot of work done around the house, and getting the rest of the stuff we need for fostering together.  Our visitor is coming on Tuesday so I have a lot to get done before then!

My favorite picture from the week.  All the doggies snuggling together.

Five on Friday - house update (part three)

Things have been so crazy lately!  I have basically spent the last week of my life at Home Depot, Menards, running errands or at the house.  So much has gotten done, it's amazing!  Today is the day we find out if we have gotten enough done to be able to move.  (Cross your fingers!)

This is my favorite counter top in the house!  It is in the "kids" bathroom, AKA my sister's bathroom.  It is a beautiful blue with some sparkles in it.  I LOVE it!

My husband finally installed my beautiful orb light!  Everyone that has seen it says it is such an awesome light!  Makes me so happy!

The dining room chandelier was also installed.  I think it is perfect for this area.

My beautiful new appliances!  I LOVE them so much and can't wait to start using them!

My beautiful hardwoods!  They turned out amazing and I think Marky Mark might even like them after all!

Five on Friday!

This week has been great but this weekend will be even better!  Here's what I'm looking forward to...

1.  Tomorrow is Remi's fundraiser at Bay View Bark!  I am so excited that her fundraiser is finally here!!  She definitely needs new knees and possibly her tail fixed so I really hope it is successful.

2.  The fundraiser tomorrow is also a Halloween party!!  And since Halloween is my favorite holiday I get so excited when I get dress the girls up in costumes.  Marley is going to be a bee (she kind of got jipped cause that's the only one that fit her), Stella is gonna be a ladybug (because my Lu was supposed to be one this year)  and Remi is going be an owl (she looks freakin' adorable in the costume).

last year's costumes (Kramer as a caterpillar, Stella as a bee and Luna as a witch)
3.  Me and the hubby are going to Chicago overnight Sunday.  We have never stayed overnight in the city and I'm very excited about it.  The overnight stay was a gift for my birthday from Kris  :)  I'm looking forward to just getting away with the hubby for a night.  I'm sure we will eat some good food and listen to some good music!

4.  The whole reason for the overnight stay and the most exciting part about the trip is we are seeing SARA BAREILLES!!!!  She is my FAV!! And I can't wait to see her perform songs off of her new album!!!

5.  And of course because we are so close, we will definitely be making a pit stop at my favorite store on Monday at...

Have a good weekend!
